The Sparrow
Sparrows were among the cheapest things sold in the market - two for a farthing, or five for two farthings. Jesus chose this nearly worthless bird to make a priceless point: not one of them falls to the ground without the Father, and not one is forgotten before God. 'Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.' The psalmist, longing for God's house, envied even the sparrow that had found a home near the altar.
