Barzillai
Barzillai the Gileadite was a wealthy, aged friend who provided food and supplies to David and his men during Absalom's rebellion, when the king fled across the Jordan. When David offered to reward him with a place at court, the eighty-year-old Barzillai humbly declined, asking only to die in his own city near his parents' grave. David remembered his loyalty on his deathbed, charging Solomon to show kindness to Barzillai's sons.

Did You Know?
Barzillai the Gileadite was about eighty years old when he provisioned David's fleeing army during Absalom's revolt, supplying beds, food, and vessels at his own expense (2 Samuel 17:27-29).
When David offered to reward him with a place at the royal court, Barzillai gracefully declined, saying he was too old to taste food or hear the singers, and asked only to die near his parents' grave - a rare portrait of contented old age.
David remembered him on his deathbed, charging Solomon to 'show kindness unto the sons of Barzillai' (1 Kings 2:7), so his loyalty was repaid a generation later.
