Peleg
Peleg was the son of Eber, named because "in his days was the earth divided" (Genesis 10:25) - traditionally understood as either the division of nations and languages at Babel or an early division of territory among peoples. He fathered Reu at 30 and lived 209 years afterward.

Did You Know?
Peleg's name comes from a Hebrew root meaning 'to divide,' and Genesis 10:25 explicitly explains it: 'for in his days was the earth divided.'
Many readers connect this 'division' to the confusion of languages and scattering of peoples at the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11, which occurs shortly after in the narrative.
