Sin

Sin

Scripture defines sin as the transgression of God's law and the falling short of his glory - a rebellion that entered the world through Adam's disobedience and now touches every human being, corrupting relationship with God, others, and creation itself. Far from a minor moral failing, sin is portrayed as a power that enslaves, a debt that must be paid, and a wound that only God himself can heal, which is why the whole story of Scripture moves toward the cross where Christ bore sin's penalty on behalf of all who trust him. Recognizing the seriousness of sin is essential to understanding grace, since the depth of the problem reveals the depth of the remedy God provided.
