What Does 1 Samuel 16:7 Mean?
7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
What It Means
God is telling Samuel not to choose a leader based on looks or height, since he had already rejected the tall, impressive man who first appeared. Humans naturally judge by what they see on the outside, but God pays attention to the real person inside-their motives, character, and heart.
This matters in daily life because it frees us from obsessing over appearances and pushes us to treat others with genuine kindness while focusing on becoming honest and caring ourselves.
