What Does Nehemiah 8:10 Mean?

10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

What It Means

This verse shows Nehemiah telling the people to stop mourning and instead enjoy good food and drink on a holy day set apart for God, while also sharing generously with anyone who has nothing prepared. The key point is that sorrow does not have to rule them because the joy that comes from the Lord himself acts as their real source of strength.

In everyday life this means choosing to celebrate God's goodness even on ordinary days, letting that inner joy steady you when things feel heavy, and turning outward to bless others instead of staying stuck in guilt or sadness.
