How old was Jesus when he died?

Most scholars estimate Jesus was around 33 years old at his crucifixion, based on Luke 3:23 ("about thirty years of age" at the start of his ministry) and a ministry length of roughly three years implied by the Gospel of John's multiple Passover references.

The Bible does not state Jesus's exact age at death, but two data points allow a close estimate. Luke 3:23 says Jesus "began to be about thirty years of age" when he began his public ministry. The Gospel of John then structures its narrative around at least three, and possibly four, distinct Passover feasts (John 2:13, 6:4, 11:55, and possibly one implied in John 5:1), which most scholars take as evidence that Jesus's ministry lasted approximately three years. Adding roughly three years to an approximate starting age of thirty places Jesus at about 33 years old at his crucifixion. Combined with historical dating of his birth (commonly placed around 6-4 BC, prior to the death of Herod the Great in Matthew 2) and the crucifixion (commonly dated to around AD 30-33 based on Roman governorship records and Passover calendar calculations), this age estimate is the most widely accepted, though the Bible itself never states a specific number.
