³ And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; ⁴ And patience, experience; and experience, hope: ⁵ And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Paul reframes suffering as a process that builds endurance, character, and ultimately hope - a hope grounded in God's love poured into our hearts.

¹¹ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

God's plans for his people are good, even when circumstances scream otherwise. A future and a hope are secured by his covenant love.

²⁹ He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. ³⁰ Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: ³¹ But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Those who hope in the Lord renew their strength like eagles. Waiting on him is not passive but the source of supernatural endurance.

¹¹ Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

The psalmist honestly questions his soul yet repeatedly calls it to hope in God. Honest lament leads to renewed trust.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

The resurrection of Jesus gives believers a living, imperishable hope. Our inheritance is kept in heaven, secure through every trial.

Peter grounds Christian hope not in wishful thinking but in the historical fact of Christ's resurrection - a hope that is alive, imperishable, and kept in heaven.

¹⁷ Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: ¹⁸ That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: ¹⁹ Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; ²⁰ Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

The writer of Hebrews pictures hope as an anchor reaching behind the curtain into God's presence - providing stability in life's storms because it is secured in heaven.
