⁶ But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. ⁷ Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. ⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

James states a spiritual law as reliable as gravity - pride invites God's resistance while humility opens the floodgates of His grace.

³ Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. ⁴ Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. ⁵ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: ⁶ Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: ⁷ But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: ⁸ And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. ⁹ Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: ¹⁰ That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; ¹¹ And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Paul presents Christ's self-emptying as the ultimate model - the one who was equal with God chose servanthood, obedience, and death, redefining greatness forever.

Peter connects humility to trust - casting anxiety on God requires admitting we cannot carry it ourselves, and God promises to lift up the humble in due time.

¹¹ But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. ¹² And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Jesus inverts the world's power structure - in His kingdom, authority is measured by service, and the path to greatness runs through humble self-giving.

³³ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Proverbs observes a consistent pattern - those who humble themselves are eventually honored, while those who grasp for honor find it slipping away.
