The Householder's Treasure
Closing his chapter of kingdom parables, Jesus compared an instructed disciple to a householder who brings out of his storeroom treasures both new and old.
After telling a series of parables about the kingdom of heaven, Jesus asked his disciples, 'Have ye understood all these things?' They answered, 'Yea, Lord.' He then gave them one final picture: every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old. The disciples were not to discard the Scriptures they already knew, nor to ignore what Jesus had newly revealed. Like a well-stocked household, they were to draw on both and share them generously with others.
