What Does Hebrews 12:1 Mean?

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

What It Means

This verse pictures the Christian life as a race where we're cheered on by many faithful people who have gone before us. It urges us to drop anything that slows us down or trips us up, especially the sins that easily pull us off track, and to keep moving forward with steady endurance in the path God has set.

In daily life this means pausing now and then to notice habits, worries, or attitudes that drain our energy and choosing to release them so we can stay focused and patient through ordinary challenges.
