What Does John 15:13 Mean?
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
What It Means
This verse means that the greatest possible love is shown when someone willingly gives up their own life to protect or save their friends. Jesus said it to explain the depth of his own love, which he proved by dying on the cross for us.
It matters because it sets a simple, daily standard: real love shows up in practical sacrifices, like giving your time, comfort, or resources for someone else even when it costs you. When we live this way, our friendships and family relationships grow deeper and more trustworthy.
