The Ram
On Mount Moriah, as Abraham prepared to offer Isaac, he looked up and saw 'a ram caught in a thicket by his horns,' and offered it 'in the stead of his son.' The ram became one of Scripture's first great pictures of substitution, a life given in place of another. Under the Law rams were offered at the consecration of priests and as trespass offerings, their horns became the trumpets that sounded at Jericho, and in Daniel's vision a two-horned ram stood for the kings of Media and Persia.
