Demoniac in the Capernaum Synagogue
In the middle of a sabbath service, an unclean spirit cried out that it knew who Jesus was. Jesus silenced it with a word and set the man free.
On a sabbath early in his ministry, Jesus taught in the synagogue at Capernaum, and the people were astonished because he taught as one with authority, not as the scribes. A man with an unclean spirit cried out, 'What have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.' Jesus rebuked him, saying, 'Hold thy peace, and come out of him.' The spirit threw the man down and came out with a loud cry, leaving him unhurt. The amazed crowd asked what new doctrine this was, that even unclean spirits obeyed him, and his fame spread throughout Galilee.
