Elisha Heals the Waters at Jericho

Illustration of Elisha Heals the Waters at Jericho
Jericho's spring brought death and barrenness; Elisha threw in salt with God's word, and the waters were healed for good.

The men of Jericho told Elisha that although their city was pleasant, the water was bad and the ground barren. Elisha called for a new bowl of salt, went to the spring, cast the salt in, and declared, 'Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.' The waters were healed permanently, from that day forward. It was one of Elisha's first miracles after receiving Elijah's mantle, a sign of restoration and life through the word of the LORD.

I Have Healed These Waters

2 Kings 2:19-22

A19nd the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.

20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. 21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land. 22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.
