144,000 - The Sealed Servants of God
Twelve times twelve times a thousand - the sealed servants of God in Revelation, standing secure with the Lamb.
The number 144,000 appears only in Revelation, twice. In chapter 7 John hears the number of those sealed on their foreheads before judgment falls: 'an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel,' twelve thousand from each of twelve tribes. In chapter 14 the same number stands with the Lamb on mount Sion, bearing his Father's name and singing a new song. The number is twelve times twelve times a thousand, and interpreters differ on its meaning: some take it as a literal number of Jewish believers, while many see it as a symbolic picture of the whole people of God, complete and secure. Right after hearing the 144,000, John sees 'a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations.'
Meaning: The complete people of God, sealed and secure
