The Son of God
From the angel's promise to Mary that her child 'shall be called the Son of God' to the Father's voice at the baptism, the Gospels present Jesus as the unique Son of the Father. Near Caesarea Philippi Peter confessed, 'Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God,' and Jesus said this had been revealed to him by the Father in heaven. The title speaks of Jesus' eternal relationship with God and his divine nature, which is why the high priest called his claim to it blasphemy. John wrote his Gospel 'that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.'
