Grace vs. Mercy

Mercy is God withholding the punishment you deserve; grace is God giving you blessings you don't deserve. Mercy says "not that," grace says "instead, this."

Point by Point

Grace Mercy
What it withholds vs. gives Grace actively gives favor, gifts, and salvation that were never earned. Mercy withholds deserved judgment, punishment, or consequence.
Simple picture Grace is being given a reward you didn't earn. Mercy is not receiving a punishment you did earn.
Key verse pairing "By grace are ye saved through faith... it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8). "It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed" (Lamentations 3:22).

Scripture References

Saved by Grace

Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Grace is explicitly framed as an unearned gift, not a result of works.

His Mercies Are New Every Morning

Lamentations 3:22-23
22 It is of the LORDโ€™s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
