Divorce
Divorce fractures what was meant to be permanent, and the grief of it can outlast the paperwork by years. Scripture takes marriage's covenant seriously - which is exactly why it takes the pain of its breaking seriously too. God is described as near to the brokenhearted, able to restore what was lost, and never finished writing a person's story because a marriage ended.

God Hates Putting Away
Malachi 2:16
The prophet's blunt language reflects how seriously God regards the breaking of the marriage covenant - and by extension, the real grief that comes with it.
16or the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
What God Hath Joined Together
Matthew 19:6
Jesus affirms marriage's intended permanence, giving weight to why its breaking is genuinely painful rather than a minor event.
6herefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Called to Peace
1 Corinthians 7:15
Paul acknowledges that some marriages end despite one partner's faithfulness, and grounds the path forward in God's call to peace rather than endless guilt.
15ut if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
Near to the Brokenhearted
Psalms 34:18
God's nearness to the brokenhearted applies as much to the pain of divorce as to any other grief.
18he LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Thy Maker Is Thine Husband
Isaiah 54:5
Spoken to a nation that had known covenant-breaking, this image of God as husband offers comfort to anyone who feels alone after a marriage ends.
5or thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
The Years the Locust Hath Eaten
Joel 2:25
God's promise to restore what was consumed speaks to the years and hopes that a divorce can feel like it destroyed.
25nd I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
