Drug use and substance abuse

While the Bible predates modern drugs, its warnings apply directly: 'be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess' (Ephesians 5:18) and 'all things are lawful unto me, but I will not be brought under the power of any' (1 Corinthians 6:12) both describe the danger of anything that seizes control of the mind and body. Believers are called to sober-mindedness (1 Peter 5:8) and to honor the body as God's temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

If a substance has become something you cannot stop, that is worth taking seriously and bringing honestly to God and to a trusted, mature believer (James 5:16) - freedom in Christ is real: 'if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed' (John 8:36). There is no condemnation for those who come to him seeking help (Romans 8:1); if you are in physical danger from substance use, please also reach out to a medical professional or a crisis line.
