Heartbreak and getting over a breakup

The Bible does not treat heartbreak as trivial, and neither should you. 'The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit' (Psalm 34:18) - that is a promise for exactly this pain. Grieve honestly; the Psalms are full of tears prayed out loud (Psalm 6:6).

But also hear what heartbreak lies to you about: it says you have lost your worth, your future, and your one chance at love. None of that is true. Your worth was never held by the person who left (Psalm 139:14), your future is held by God - 'I know the thoughts that I think toward you...

thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end' (Jeremiah 29:11) - and God is able to bring good you cannot currently imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Guard against numbing the pain in ways that create new wounds. Bring it to God daily, lean on real friends, and give it time - healing is not a betrayal of what you felt.
