Someone I love died by suicide - are they in hell

This question haunts grieving families, so let it be answered carefully: the Bible never teaches that suicide is an unforgivable sin. The only sin Jesus called unforgivable is the settled, hardened rejection of God's Spirit (Mark 3:28-29) - not a final act of a mind crushed by despair or illness. Salvation rests on Christ's finished work received by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), not on whether a believer's last act was their best one - 'I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand' (John 10:28).

Believers through history who died in despair are in the hands of a Judge who is also a Father, who knows what depression, illness, and torment do to a mind, and who 'knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust' (Psalm 103:14).
