Does God hate me for who I am

No - and this answer does not depend on who you are, what you have done, or what you are afraid makes you unlovable. The Bible's claim is stronger than 'God tolerates you': 'God is love' (1 John 4:8), he made you deliberately (Psalm 139:13-16), and he proved his disposition toward you at maximum cost while you were at your worst - 'while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us' (Romans 5:8). Jesus was famous - infamous - for the company he kept: 'This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them' (Luke 15:2) was the accusation, and he never denied it; he told three straight parables about how heaven celebrates when one lost person comes home (Luke 15).

Whatever voice taught you that God's face is turned away from you in disgust - a harsh church, a cruel parent, your own accusing heart - test it against his actual recorded behavior: 'A bruised reed shall he not break' (Matthew 12:20). God hates sin the way a surgeon hates a tumor - because of what it does to someone he loves. You are not the tumor.

You are the patient he came for: 'For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost' (Luke 19:10). Come as you are and let him prove it: 'him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out' (John 6:37).
