What Does Romans 13:8 Mean?
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
What It Means
This verse encourages us to stay out of debt to anyone, while recognizing that our one ongoing "debt" is to keep loving the people around us every day. Loving others in practical ways like being patient, honest, and generous actually fulfills God's commands, since real love prevents us from harming or taking advantage of anyone. In daily life this looks like paying what we owe promptly, then choosing kindness even when it's inconvenient, which builds stronger relationships and brings a sense of peace and purpose.
