Manifestation, the law of attraction, and speaking things into existence
Popular teaching about 'manifesting' or the 'law of attraction' claims that focused thought, desire, or spoken words can summon outcomes from an impersonal universe. Scripture instead points to a personal God who directs outcomes according to his will, not our will: 'many devices are in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand' (Proverbs 19:21), and 'the LORD directeth his steps' regardless of what a person plans (Proverbs 16:9).
Believers are taught to ask God directly rather than to summon things by their own spiritual power: 'be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God' (Philippians 4:6), and 'every good gift... ' James also warns against presuming on the future apart from God's will: 'ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that' (James 4:13-15).
The difference is not about ambition or hope, which Scripture encourages (Proverbs 16:3), but about who is sovereign - trust and surrender to God, not an attempt to command reality yourself.
