Ouija boards

Scripture is direct about not seeking contact with spirits or the dead through any object or ritual: 'There shall not be found among you... a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD' (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). King Saul's disastrous attempt to contact the dead through a medium (1 Samuel 28) shows how this practice leads away from God rather than toward him.

Whatever people believe is happening with a Ouija board, Scripture's counsel is the same: do not seek answers or spiritual contact this way; instead 'try the spirits whether they are of God' (1 John 4:1) and go to God directly, who 'giveth to all men liberally' when we ask (James 1:5). If you have used one and feel troubled by it, bring it honestly to God - 'if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us' (1 John 1:9) - and there is nothing to fear in Christ, for 'greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world' (1 John 4:4).
